When you or your friend call for a big party or friend gathering, what would you all have? I think Malaysians have the trend to organise a BBQ party at home. However, when coming to the “cooking session”, we are not as skilful as the sifu, so we burn the materials off. And also, at the end of the party, you might realise only two to three friends are cleaning up the place, some are not helpful at all. Have you actually come to a circumstance that you wish to have all these BBQ food hassle free? If yes, your dream has come true! Nestled in Oasis Square, Ara Damansara, MOKU was opened to serve you delicious grill and BBQ dishes.

More accurately, MOKU is a Japanese grill and BBQ restaurant. The word “MOKU”, in Japanese means wood. Hence, you can find their dining tables and chairs are made by wood plank.

Meanwhile, the brick walls were decorated with a lot of metal plates. The black wall on your right when you walk into MOKU is actually the menu of the restaurant. So, if you prefer to see in “bigger” size, here you have.

MOKU makes their own grill and dipping sauces. They grill and BBQ the skewers upon order, with charcoal. Hence, it is definitely like you are holding a BBQ party; nevertheless, your job is no longer BBQ your own food, but to enjoy and chit-chat with your friends.

When we were there, MOKU had only two crews working in the kitchen. I am not sure whether there are more now; however, if they remain two crews, diner would need to wait longer timer for their food if the restaurant has more patrons. Let’s see what we had on that night.

From left to right: Pork Belly @ RM5, Chicken Wings @ RM5, Chicken Gizzard @ RM2.50, Chicken Heart @ RM3 and Pope’s Nose @ RM3.50

These skewers were served without sauce, all were dry. However, all were well-grilled and were more flavorful with the lemon.

This plate of skewers was served with their homemade teriyaki sauce. These were more delightful and juicy than the previous plate. They should have served the previous plate with this sauce too!

If you are a veggie lover, MOKU has also vegetable skewers! All served on one plate, it was so colorful and appealing!

From left to right: Cherry Tomato @ RM2.50, Brinjal @ RM2.50, Lady Finger @ RM2.50 and Shitake Mushroom @ RM3

Other than skewers, MOKU also serves other grill dishes such as Slice Beef Sirloin. A beef lover will order more! The sauce has fully penetrated into the beef slice. It was juicy and heavenly delicious.

Sliced Beef Sirloin @ RM10

You should also try their Surime Ika! It was fresh and chewy. Dip it into the mayonnaise sauce, it will be more tempting.

Surime Ika @ RM23

I personally favorited this Yaki Tofu the most! It was super soft inside but crispy outside. Again, their homemade teriyaki sauce was the key making this dish so appetizing.

Or you can have their Stuffed Portobella Mushroom. Minced meat was fully stuffed into the mushroom. Served with teriyaki sauce, it was sweet and delightful.

You are also recommended to try their butter scallop. The sauce was sourish which gave you more appetite to have more mouth-watering food!

Butter Scallop @ RM9

Besides, there are a la carte dishes which worth to try too. You can top up extra RM3 for a set meal which includes white rice, soup, cold dish, assorted vegetables and a main dish. Some main dishes you can choose are Grilled Saba Fish, Tori Karaage and Ginger Pork.

Grilled Saba Fish @ RM14.50 or RM17.50 for set

Tori Karaage @RM13.50 or RM16.50 for set

Ginger Pork @ RM14.50 or RM17.50 for set

MOKU serves Japanese fusion food too! For example, Teriyaki Pork Burger. A combination of western and Japanese food, this burger was huge! It was served together with fries.

Teriyaki Pork Burger @ RM14.50

If you are a pasta lover, you are recommended to try Teriyaki Chicken Spaghetti and Mushroom Spaghetti. Teriyaki Chicken Spaghetti was juicy and tender; while the Mushroom Spaghetti was creamy. However, I don’t like the poached egg. I shall ask them to make it well done during my next visit.

Mushroom Spaghetti @ RM14.50

Lastly, MOKU has a special Hong Kong pastry – Sayung. This ball-shaped pastry was deep fried, drizzled with granulated sugar. It was soft, tasted similar to plain doughnut.

Hong Kong Sayung (6 pieces) @ RM12

Overall, MOKU is a good place to have grill and BBQ dishes in Klang Valley. You can book here for event or party. Do check with them for offered package. Not sure if you realise it, the price of every skewer is so affordable! Guess you hardly find this cheap price at other restaurant. Let’s have a gathering with your bestie this coming weekend at MOKU!
